Geelong adds another World Champion to its list.
Geelong triathlete and local triathlon coach, Levi Maxwell has won his age group at the 2014 Hawaiian Ironman. Levi, training and coaching with Geelong Triathlon Group - Enduranceteam blitzed his age group on the island of Kona to win by 14minutes in a time of 8hrs 52mins, one of the quickest times overall on the day. Kona served a brutal day for the nearly 2000athletes. The event was won by Sebastian Kienle in 8hrs 14mins.
Geelong was well represented by over 15athletes in the event.

Stephane Van Der Bruggen wins 4 World Titles
Stephane Van Der Bruggen in the month of September won an incredible 4 World Age Group Championship Titles. Three of the titles were won at Edmonton World Triathlon Championships and the other at the World Longcourse Championships in China. It was an amazing effort from the married father of two and it is the best ever achievement at an age group level by a Geelong triathlete. Fantastic.
Enduranceteam named best Triathlon Squad for 2013-2014
In some great news, Geelong's Enduranceteam has for 2nd Year in a row taken out Victoria's Most Successful Triathlon Squad at Victoria's biggest race series, The Gatorade Triathlon Series.
Led by local triathlon coaches, Jarrod Evans, Stephane Van Der Bruggen, Ross Young, Chloe Butt and Levi Maxwell, Enduranceteam has managed to outlast charges from powerclubs Melbourne and Tri-alliance to take the title again in 2013-2014. For a smaller town, the significance of a Geelong based triathlon group winning the title is important as Geelong has a rich history of triathlon success.

Geelong Triathlon Coach takes position with USA Triathlon
Local Geelong Professional Triathlon Coach, Jarrod Evans has been offered and taken a Head Coaching Position with USA Triathlon. Evans has been appointed Head National Development Coach for USA Triathlon until 2020. His coaching position comes off the back of a career of successful professional coaching with age group, elite and professional athletes in Australia, his Coach of the Year Award for Triathlon Australia and running Australia's most successful triathlon coaching company all based out of Geelong. The former VIS and AIS coach, Evans said "the opportunity to work within the biggest sports system in the world was to good to pass up and the opportunity to expand my knowledge base experiencing a different system was an opportunity i had to seriously look at when it came up. I have had a great 17years within the institute systems, Enduranceteam and Geelong Triathlon Coaching, but it was time to do something different". Asked if he would return to Geelong and coach again "Absolutely. Geelong is my home, my friends and family are here and i believe there will be big things on the horizon for triathlon and multisport in Geelong in the future". On Enduranceteam "ive left the business in the best possible hands. I have 6 amazing people working within this business and i expect it will continue to expand and grow and offer what it has done over the past 17years which is deliver quality coaching service with personal attention. Enduranceteam and Geelong Triathlon Coaching are back for Season 2014-2015 with new coaches, new programs and new training venues. Head Coach, Ross Young and 2 assistant coaches will be running 3-4sessions per week in Geelong for Beginners looking to get into the sport of triathlon in Geelong. Join up to 50other beginner athletes each week in Geelong for great introductory sessions.

Jarrod Evans and Greg Stewart recognized at TA Awards Dinner

Geelong Triathlon Coach, Jarrod Evans was awarded the 2013 Age Group Triathlon Coach of the Year at Triathlon Australia Awards Dinner. Along with 4 other nominee's he won the award and it was presented to him by legendary Ironman commentator Mike Reilly at the dinner attended by over 500people in Melbourne on Thursday night. Coaching in Geelong since 1996, Evans importantly recognized the team of people that make up his company in his acceptance speech and thanked those for all their time and effort.
In other fantastic news from the evening, Geelong triathlon legend, Greg Stewart was presented with a 'Legend of the Sport' recognition award for his service and impact on the sport of triathlon. It was indeed a great honor for Greg as he was awarded this with 3 other legends, Rina Hill, Bob Telfar and the late Brian Barr. Greg is an absolute legend in Geelong sporting circles and it was indeed a privelage for the triathlon club to have both of these people recognized.
AIS Triathlon Nutritionist coming to Geelong

Greg Cox, arguably the worlds leading sports nutritionist specific to triathlon is coming to Geelong for Geelong Triathlon Coaching company, Enduranceteam in March 2014. Greg currently works with Triathlon Australia's elite triathlon program and also consults with some of the worlds best long-course triathletes including Mirinda Carfrae, Luke McKenzie and Craig Alexander just to name a few. Greg will be presenting on nutrition for triathlon both in preparation, racing and recovery for all distances.

Geelong Triathletes win National Age Group Titles

Over the past 4weeks Geelong has welcomed 5 NEW Australian Age Group Champions into an exclusive club with Tim Bentley, Kate Bramley, Adam Beckworth and Mick Varker all winning Australian Sprint Titles and last weekend, local triathlon coach with Enduranceteam, Stephane Van Der Bruggen took out the Australian Olympic Distance Title for the 35-39 Age Group.

Amidst a terrible weekend, weather wise, the Geelong 70.3 and Geelong 5150 was a success despite mother nature doing her best to make things really unenjoyable for athletes.
Geelong athletes did very well over the weekend and we were well represented by a number of locals keen to put on a good show at home.
The standout for the day was notably, aspiring professional triathlete, Levi Maxwell who is part of the powerful Geelong based Enduranceteam. Levi took out the Geelong 5150 and is aiming for Ironman Melbourne where is aiming to go 8.45hrs in the 18-24 Age Group and book a spot to Hawaii. Enduranceteams Kurt McDonald wins ITU Junior Youth Event

Geelong trained junior triathlete, Kurt McDonald is following in the footsteps of Geelong ITU Professional Peter Kerr by taking out the ITU Youth Section at Race 2 of the National Junior Triathlon Series in Penrith over the weekend. Racing against 50 of the best Under 15 boys in the country, Kurt raced hard but smart to come away with the win, in a sprint finish.

Geelong triathlon coaching group. Enduranceteam has started the 2013/2014 Season the way it finished off last season, leading the way with strong performances at the Gatorade Triathlon Series. In the very competative 'club championship' Enduranceteam currently sits at the top of the leader board after race 1 after winning the 2012/2013 title.

One of the worlds best Triathlon Coaches comes to Geelong

One of the worlds best triathlon coaches and coach of 6 of the top 12 female athletes at the London Olympics was in Geelong this week. Geelong's Enduranceteam, bought the highly sought after Australian Coach, Darren Smith down to Geelong for the day to work with 8 of Enduranceteams ITU High Performance Squad and Coaches. As Head Coach of the world famous "D-Squad" Darren spent the day passing on valuable training and technical information to the athletes and coaches.
Geelong triathlete success at Hawaii and China

Geelong Triathlon Coach, Jarrod Evans produced his 2nd Age Group World Champion in 4weeks with athlete, Amos Gollach winning the 18-24 Age Group at 2013 Hawaiian Ironman. 17 World Age Group Champion titles have now come from Jarrod Evans and the enduranceteam stable, increasing Geelong's hold on being the building ground for some of the country's best triathletes.
Geelong triathletes also performed very well in the event with local triathletes, Todd Brown (9.31hrs), Ross Young (9.54) and Darren Franken (10.23hrs) all racing in the brutal event. Our congratulations go to all.
In other exciting news, Geelong female professional triathlete, Lyndal Dew secured her first international win, with a victory in the 2013 ITU Asian Cup in Meizhou, China. This was the Geelong triathletes first podium and shows that Geelong might have another budding champion on the ride along with Geelong's Pete Kerr. Well done Lyndal.

This takes local triathlon coaching group endurancteam to having coached 11 Age Group World Champions. Outstanding and more so, because its local success.

Open Water Training Sessions at Geelong's Eastern Beach

Geelong Triathlon Coaching Beginner and Age Group Squads have kicked off its preparation for the 2013/2014 with the start of open water sessions at Geelong's Eastern Beach. Geelong Triathlon Coach and Open Water Swim expert Chloe Butt is taking Geelong triathletes for open water swim practice each week in preparation for the upcoming season.
It was great to see athletes asking plenty of questions and learning new skills to prepare them for the season.

Geelong Triathlon Coaching Group gets NEW Ride

Geelong Triathlon Coaching and Enduranceteam have delivered a first for the Geelong Triathlon Club in that triathlon in Geelong now has a recognizable face on the road which is great for the sport of triathlon in this town.
The GTC used to (still has) a club trailer with equipment, but this is the first time a Geelong Triathlon Coaching Group has a recognizable vehicle specifically catering for triathlon promotion.

Pete Kerr returns to World Championship Series Racing

Geelong Triathlon was well represented over the weekend at an International level with Geelong's Pete Kerr back to top level ITU World Championship Racing in Hamburg. Although not getting what he was after (after returning from Appendix surgery) in terms of individual results, he certainly made up for it the next day in the teams challenge where Team Australia finished 4th. Well done Pete. Pete moves onto Hungary for the next World Cup Race and then hopefully onto London to represent Australia in the Elite Section. The girls were very happy to get their first race out of the way and will now continue hard training for Continental Cup events in Sep,Oct and Nov. Well done girls and hopefully this is the start of something big.

Beginner Triathletes get to experience underwater stroke filming
Geelong Triathlon Coach & VIS Triathlon Coach, Jarrod Evans has been attending the swimming sessions of the Geelong Triathlon Coaching Beginner and Age Group Squads providing training tips and underwater swim filming analysis sessions over the past 3-4weeks. This has been an invaluable tool for beginners and people new to the sport to actually see what athletes are doing right and wrong with their swim strokes.
May, June and July are the perfect months to go back to basics with your swimming and make change, correct and then improve on what you have done in the past for the up-coming season. For a limited time this underwater stroke analysis and filming is FREE to all athletes who attend these sessions with Geelong Triathlon Coaching on Tuesday Nights at Geelong College. Set yourself a goal to do a Triathlon for the 2013/2014 Season

Anthony Rizzo's story is a great example of a person's willingness to change their life. Anthony Rizzo was over 147kg a few years ago and had never done a triathlon and this Sunday he tackles Ironman Melbourne for the 2nd time at a new record weight of 81kg and looks fantastic.

Geelong Triathlon Coaching, Beginner Coaches and Enduranceteam Beginner Coaches will be down at the Geelong Weetbix Kids Triathlon this Sunday at Eastern Beach supporting the event and handing out information on triathlon training for our fantastic training squads in Geelong.

Geelong Triathlon Coaching is currently holding its latest Try a Tri Program aiming for mini triathlons in Feb, March and April 2013. We have over 20 first timers training for their first triathlon, so why not drop coach, Lyndal Dew an email on lyndal.l.dew@hotmail.com. Running the sessions out of Kardinia Pool, River and Coast locations, you can get the best training in the best locations.

Have you ever wanted to do a Triathlon?
To all interested - www.enduranceteam.net is starting their Annual "Try a Triathlon" Program shortly, and we have 12 spots available for Beginners and first timers interested. There are 2 x 12 Week Terms to choose from. No joining fee's, no membership fee's, you can pay as you go and just enjoy the experience with their fantastic coach - Lyndal Dew. 3 Sessions per week - covering Swim, Bike and Run, and is great fun.
All ages and all abilities are welcome.

August 2011 - Ironman Melbourne Arrives
The World Triathlon Corperation (WTC), and its Australian arm, headed up by former local triathlete, Shane Smith, this month announced the long speculated, coming of Ironman Melbourne. The event is a landmark for sport in this town and state, and more so a recognition of the growth of triathlon in this country. It will be another fantastic event for our state, which now see's, Victoria, once again, take the mantle of the 'Home of Triathlon'. Great to see, for all concerned.
August 2011 - Geelong Triathlete / Paul Rigby Passes Away
It is with much sadness and respect that we send our condolences to Paul Rigby's Family and Friends after the passing of the long time local triathlete, Paul Rigby. Paul was a much valued member of triathlon and multisport communities in Geelong, and was a long time participant and supporter in the first races held by the Geelong Triathlon Club in its early years, and for many years Paul was a staple in all sporting events in and around Geelong. Early on he worked and managed at local Restaurant, Mexican Graffitti, Paul later started working at Degrandi Cycle and Sport, with the Degrandi Family where he worked right up until he was to un-healthy to do so. Paul you were a great person and great friend to many.

The Weet-Bix Kids TRYathlon comes to Geelong March 6 and we are desperate for some more volunteers. Sanitarium will be donating $20 per volunteer that signs up on behalf of the club on the day.
The event is held at Eastern Beach, Geelong and volunteers are required from 6am till around 12.30pm.

The Geelong Triathlon Club wishes to congratulate the 3 Geelong athletes who represented the town in the 2010 Hawaiian Ironman World Championships held today in HOT and windy conditions. Brett Dunstan finished in 9.27hrs, Deiter McDonald finished in 9.38hrs and Darren Franken finished in 10.15hrs. Well done to these 3 athletes.
